Registration Process
To apply for nursery through Grade 8 at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, complete the official Admission Form and submit it to the school office by March 1. Include your child’s birth certificate, baptismal record, most recent school report and any relevant immigration or special program documents. After processing, IHMS will contact you to schedule a meeting and tour with the Principal. To apply for Lubov Nursery School, please visit lubovnurseryschool.com.
Current IHMS families must complete the annual Re-Registration Form for each child attending the school. This form is due at the beginning of February to ensure your child’s place for the coming school year and to help the school manage new applications efficiently. Please contact the school office if you require a new form.
Admissions Policy
Applications for the upcoming school year are accepted beginning October 1, with admission decisions communicated by April 30. Families are encouraged to apply early, as spaces are limited and priority criteria apply.
Applications for the current school year must be submitted by September 30. Requests received after this date are considered late applications. Late admission requires direct consultation with the Principal. Approval is granted at the discretion of school administration and is not guaranteed.
Criteria and consideration
Age requirement
Children must meet provincial age qualifications: Kindergarten entry requires age 5 on or before December 31 of the school year, and Grade 1 entry requires age 6 on or before December 31 of that year.
Priorities and conditions
Siblings, Ukrainian Catholic Students, Alumni
Priority for spaces is given first to siblings of current students, then to children from practising Ukrainian Catholic families and to children of alumni.
Catholic Students (Other Parishes)
Catholic children who are not Ukrainian Catholic are considered for admission on an individual basis once priority placements are addressed.
Non-Catholic Students
Non-Catholic applicants may be admitted after Catholic students have been placed. All students are expected to participate in the full academic and religious program.
Non-Resident Students
Non-resident families (e.g., on visitor visas) will be charged additional costs equal to the provincial grant plus the expenses above that grant, payable in advance or via post-dated cheques.
Class size
Classroom sizes are set with a maximum of 26 students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 and 28 students in Grades 4–8. The school may limit numbers further to maintain a strong learning environment. If qualified applicants exceed available spaces, administration makes final acceptance decisions.
School funding
The Government of Manitoba provides public schools a per-student grant; Catholic schools receive half this amount. The grant supports instructional services only and does not cover capital costs. IHMS operates through provincial grants, fundraising, donations, registration fees, and tuition.
Bursary assistance is available and is assessed on an individual, situational basis.
